 Larkspur Historical Society Poster

Historic Larkspur changing times debuted on July 3, 2009 at the Larkspur second annual Independence Day Celebration. The poster was designed and produced by the Larkspur Historical Society to portray the changes to the buildings and geographic contours of the town over the years, moving from a bustling pioneer community at the dawn of the twentieth century, through the devastating impact of the 1965 Flood to its present day, vibrant profile.

The 21 by 28 inch poster, displaying a myriad of historic views can be purchased for $30.00 by calling: 303.681.3738.

Past Events

D.C. Fair Aug. 5 - 8
It was a very busy weekend with the History booth at the county fair and the Palmer Lake Chautauqua on August 7. Danna Hamling and Penny Burdick assisted the Palmer Lake Historical Society with their third annual celebration of Chautauqua.  Penny Burdick was demonstrating the butter-making process, using her Grandmother's glass butter churn.  This, along with Phyllis Bonser's pickle preparation process, created large crowds of folks stopping by to speak with Danna and pick up a set of our new note cards or an LHS brochure.   Larry Schlupp reported, on the County Fair, saying that the four day event was very successful and that he received many positive comments from the participants about the Event Center location instead of the old tent. Bill Noe rounded out the volunteers from our society to make this another successful and worthwhile weekend.

May 2010 Crull Cabin Open House

May 22, 2010 was the Crull Open House to show off our new Kiosk. The kiosk was recycled and donated to us by the Town of Larkspur.  Many braved the constant winds and helped us to show off this new feature of the cabin, where information about the cabin history and other area history will be featured. A big thank-you to Miriam Kalkwarf, who generously donated the delicious homemade cookies, which guests as well as hosts greatly appreciated.

Riverside Cemetery Tour, May 17, 2010

"A cemetery exists because every life is worth loving and remembering - always".  Thinking of those who have gone before, eleven  members of LHS toured the Riverside Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.  The tour was conducted by Society and Fairmount Heritage Foundation members, Joan and Garry O'Hara.  Please click here for more information and photos of our tour.

Tour of Greenland Schoolhouse
April 19, 2010, LHS took a tour of the renovated Greenland Schoolhouse, which is part of Douglas County Open Space at the Greenland Town site.   The schoolhouse was in service until about 1958 as the school for the Greenland children. In the near future, the outside of the building will be painted the original schoolhouse white.  (Photos of our tour.)
