Spring Valley Cemetery Walking Tour
The Spring Valley
Cemetery first annual history walk was on Saturday June 21, 2008. Over 70
participants joined us and the Spring Valley Cemetery Association for this
special look into history. If you
could not make the June tour we hope that you will join us next year, keep
watching this site for more information.
In the meantime please enjoy the photos from our first annual Spring
Valley Cemetery tour.
Featured in Station 1 was the Best family with Janet Best
Pisciotta and Charlotte Best Rubenking presenting.
Featured in Station 2 was the Seaberg/Dahlberg families with
Jerry Dahlberg presenting.
Featured in Station 3 was Gwillimville, with Laura Bailey and
Brendon Younger presenting information about the small town of Gwillimville and
the story of two of the Gwillim children who died of diphtheria.
Brendon and Laura did
an outstanding job. Featured in station 4 was the Thompson and Hodgen Families
presented by Barbara Thompson Morehead.
Station 5 featured “Irish” Pat Murphy presented by Dave
Hamling.
Dave and wife Danna are pictured at the left.
Danna is the President of the LHS. The photo on the right shows Dave complete
with Irish brogue, delivering the story of pioneer Pat Murphy. Station 6 gave us a glimpse into the Younger families’ life
with Dee Younger presenting.
Featured in station 7 was the Noe family presented by Ida May
“Grandma” Noe.
Grandma Noe is seated in the middle of the
gathered group. Our last station was presented by Archivist Johanna Harden of
the Douglas County Libraries History Research Center.
Johanna presented the story of Anna Russell.
In addition to the presentations of the denizens of the
cemetery, local historian, Ben Priest, shared his knowledge about the pioneers,
mountain men and Indians of the area.
Ben is on the right. His display of historic
artifacts and the stories he shares are always interesting.
We would like to
thank everyone who participated in this first annual event. A special thanks to
those who worked to make the day such a success.
It was a
pleasure to share history with all of you.
LHS P.S. The tombstone
of Horace Reynolds was recently returned to the cemetery.
It had been replaced with the tombstone in the forefront of this photo.
After an absence of approx 16 years it is good to have the original back in
place.
